LENS ON LEADING
Notes from Antony
Little House on the Beach
“Quack, quack.” If you live anywhere near Boston, those two words immediately stir up local imagery. Even if you’re a tourist on a duck boat on the Charles River, you’ll learn soon enough to go “Quack, quack” while you’re on the boat. Then there’s the finish line of...
Out of the Darkness
Here we are in March, that time of year when the holidays are behind us and we hunker down, surviving winter and longing for spring. By now many of us have lists somewhere about what we want to do to make this year count in our lives—move our careers forward, manage...
Emotions and Their Role in Heart Health
February in New England. It feels like a time of change, and yet the seasonal shift still is weeks away. If you’re a football fan, you think Superbowl (Go Pats!); If you’re a baseball fan, you’re glad football is over, because now you start talking about the real...
Duncan Meets Aspire Health Alliance
Duncan almost met Aspire Health Alliance at a branding meeting. The problem was that his name was not Duncan. It was Dunkin’. When Dunkin’ Donuts announced they were rebranding and dropping the word Donuts, for some reason my brain thought they were changing their brand to Duncan.
Stories of Healing Art
Last summer I was taken by a piece of music I first heard on an Apple commercial for a new MacBook Pro. I investigated and discovered it was by a musician in Austin, Texas, named Daniel Johnston and was called “The Story of an Artist.” The critics didn’t necessarily like his music, but I certainly liked that particular piece.
Blessed and Thankful
I have a terrific colleague who started a mother and baby behavioral health service. Julie is wicked smart. She trained as a nurse, earned a doctorate, and became a midwife and nurse practitioner. She’s so smart, so good, so committed to moms who have experienced behavioral health issues.
Autumnal Adventures
Now that we live in New England, it’s especially important to get the verbiage right. Not leaf peeking. Leaf peeping. We won’t make that mistake again.
Late to the Party, But on Time for Love
A few months ago I started watching the television show “Glee.” I know, I’m late to the party like I am to so many parties. The series ended several years ago. What can I say? I’m too busy watching Manchester United, I suppose. And living with two daughters, I don’t always have control over the remote.
Fireworks and Celebrations
Honestly, July was a busy month. I’m almost always up for road-tripping, though admittedly it was a bit of a challenge with two dogs, including a new puppy, when we drove to Memphis and back. For people who are used to living on an island across the pond, the wonders of this country never cease to amaze.
Ellie’s First Camp
We made a promise to Ellie and her best friend that they could go to camp together—in Memphis. Then we moved to Boston last year and reneged. This was the summer to pay up.
