LEADERS IN MENTAL HEALTH & EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES

Innovative, Client-Driven Approaches

We pride ourselves on our innovative, client-driven approaches ensuring the highest quality of care. While we serve over 16,000 children, teens, and adults each year, there are still many who do not access care due to stigma and lack of awareness of resources.

Aspire Health Alliance has met this challenge by becoming increasingly mobile and providing services in a variety of settings. Historically, 90% of our clients were seen in a clinical setting. Today, more than 50% of our services are provided in homes, community settings, and schools.

Aspire Health Alliance is at the forefront of providing innovative programs such as the Discovery Day Program to meet the needs of our clients. We are actively involved in the training and implementing of several initiatives including:

Family Talk Prevention Intervention
This evidence-based family prevention strategy, developed by Dr. William Beardslee of Children’s Hospital, is designed for families with parental depression. This method takes a family approach to helping children and their parents begin to discuss the debilitating effects of parental depression and anxiety. This approach has been used successfully throughout the United States and abroad. More than 100 staff are trained to utilize the Family Talk modules and have begun to incorporate this approach in their In-Home Therapy and clinic-based work.
BASIC Program: Behavioral and Affective Skills in Coping
Working with children ages 8-13 who are experiencing depression, anxiety and/or oppositional behavior, clinicians use cognitive behavior therapy, which focuses on mindfulness and meditation to off-set challenging and negative behaviors. Our staff has successfully worked with over 150 children and their families yielding positive outcomes including lessened anxiety and depression, and increased social interaction. The average treatment plan is approximately 6-8 months in length.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
This program provides treatment to children who are victims of sexual and/or physical abuse. Many staff members have been specially trained to use cognitive behavior therapy among other techniques to help over 300 children to date recover. Outcomes such as decreased anxiety, increased social interaction and improved academic performance have been noted among those treated.
ARC/ Attachment, Self Regulation, Competency Program
ARC is a flexible framework for intervention with youth and families who have experienced multiple and/or prolonged traumatic stress. ARC identifies three core domains (attachment, self regulation and competency) that are frequently impacted among traumatized youth and are relevant to future resiliency. ARC provides a theoretical framework, core principles of intervention, and a guiding structure for providers working with these children and their caregivers. Several staff members have participated in the ARC Train the Trainer program and clinicians soon will be bringing this treatment to children who have experienced various forms of trauma.
Clinical Training

To ensure that we deliver the best of care, we recruit and train some of the finest talent available. Since 1963, there has been an American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Pre-doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology in place at Aspire Health Alliance. The program’s model is that of a Practitioner Scholar.  Its overarching goal is to prepare psychologists for applied clinical work in community-based multidisciplinary settings.

The goal of Aspire Health Alliance’s Clinical Internship Program is to prepare doctoral level psychology students for careers in clinical practice with an emphasis on community mental health. We also offer a master’s level social work internship program to approximately 12 students. If you are a social work student, contact your school placement office to see if there is an existing training relationship with Aspire Health Alliance.

The training faculty is made up of psychologists, social workers, nurses, and psychiatrists from Aspire Health Alliance and our allied training sites. Our staff teaches through seminars and direct supervision of clinical work.

To date, we have trained more than 1,000 interns that today not only serve our clients, but other community-based clinics throughout the country.
