3413Job Description
The Jail Diversion Coordinator (JDC) reports directly to the Emergency Service Program Director, and has administrative and direct collaboration of SSMH Jail Diversion Program as part of the DMH TTAC Initiative. The TTAC initiative works to improve services, relations, and understanding amongst area police departments in the handling of individuals experiencing behavioral health crisis. The coordinator’s role is to administrate the bridging of mental health services and understanding with law enforcement. The JDC will facilitate strong linkages and direct lines of communication through trainings and collaborations amongst law enforcement, JDP Co-responders, and Emergency Service teams. The building of these relationships will promote diversions from arrest and unnecessary emergency room visits and broader the scope of understanding of interventions by law enforcement with people experiencing behavioral health crisis.
Required Skills
- Masters degree
- Valid drivers license
- Must possess excellent communication verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to become an instructor in Mental Health First Aid, Public Safety, and train police officers
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to navigate between a clinical behavioral health environment and law enforcement atmosphere
- Must adhere to professional principles

- Police, forensic, criminal justice, or related experience required
- Training experience
- Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with diverse systems and running stakeholder meetings
