Tips for managing stress your middle and high school-aged kids might have

  • Listen first- Actively listen- summarize- don’t negate their thoughts/ feelings;
  • This group has the ability to see shades of gray, unlike younger children, so issues can be discussed in more depth;
  • They are on social media and may need help separating fact from fantasy or rumors and incorrect info. Facts and simple data may help;
  • Provide honest and accurate info for credibility. Sources or references of data can be helpful;
  • Let them be involved with the planning of routines and safety protocols;
  • Emphasize how community leaders are working to keep things safe.
